Italy - Factors to watch on August 1

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Thursday.

    ECONOMY    
    
    July PMI manufacturing HCOB data (0745 GMT).
    ISTAT releases June unemployment rate date (0800 GMT).

    COMPANIES

    (*) MEDIOBANCA  MDBI.MI 
    The Italian bank said on Thursday it would launch a new
share buyback programme worth around 385 million euros ($416.80
million), after ending its fiscal year with its best revenue and
profit ever. Conference call on results (0800 GMT).
    
    (*) TENARIS  TENR.MI 
    The Italian steel pipe maker warned about a slowdown of
drilling activity in the Americas in the third quarter after
posting lacklustre second-quarter earnings late on Wednesday.
    Conference call on H1 results (1200 GMT).

    PRYSMIAN  PRY.MI 
    (*) The cable maker said on Thursday it has raised its core
profit and cash forecasts for this year on optimism for business
performance and to account for its $4.2 billion euro acquisition
of U.S. firm Encore Wire.
    On Wednesday the company said that Spanish power grid
operator Red Electrica had picked it for an energy transmission
project, which will be worth over 500 million euros ($541
million), to connect the island of Mallorca with the mainland.

GMT).
    
    (*) TELECOM ITALIA  TLIT.MI 
    The Italian phone group said on Wednesday its core earnings
rose by 10% in the second quarter under a new structure which
strips out the domestic network operations sold to U.S.
investment firm KKR  KKR.N  at the start of July.

    SNAM  SRG.MI  
    Italy's state-controlled gas grid company reported a 16%
rise in first-half adjusted core earnings on Wednesday and said
it could issue hybrid bonds worth up to 1.25 billion euros ($1.4
billion) to fund recent acquisitions. Its CFO also said Snam
could consider selling its stake in Interconnector UK. 
    
    NEXI  NEXII.MI  
    The payments company will use rising excess cash to buy back
its own shares faster than planned, it said on Wednesday as
second quarter core profit slightly exceeded forecasts.

    ENI  ENI.MI  
    Algerian state oil and gas firms Sonatrach and Sonelgaz
signed a memorandum of understanding with Italy's Eni on
Wednesday on the feasibility of a submarine power link to supply
electricity to Italian and European markets, Sonatrach said.
    
    TERNA  TRN.MI  
    The power grid operator signed on Wednesday a 5-year
ESG-linked credit facility agreement for 400 million euros 
($432.32 million).
    
    GEOX  GEO.MI 
    The shoemaker posted on Wednesday a 9.4% drop in sales for
the first six months of the year, at current exchange rates, to
320.4 million euros.
    
    ILLIMITY  ILTY.MI 
    The lender said on Wednesday it had structured a financing
deal worth more than 400 million euros for Italian refinery
ISAB, which plans to reduce the environmental impact of its
activities under a 1.4 bln euro investment plan.
    
    (*) BANKS, INSURANCE, ENERGY, LUXURY
    The government is considering introducing new taxes on
energy companies, banks, insurance companies and luxury firms,
Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper said on Thursday. La Repubblica
reported separately about possible new levies on banks and
insurance groups.
    
    (*) ACCIAIERIE D'ITALIA
    Domestic and foreign groups interested in taking over the
steelworks of Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), which was formerly
known as Ilva, need to formalise their offers by Sept. 20,
according to the tender procedure announced by the industry
ministry on Wednesday.

    M&A, BENDING SPOONS
    The Italian technology company said on Wednesday it had
agreed to acquire WeTransfer, the file sharing platform founded
in the Netherlands, without giving financial details.
