** Chipmaker Texas Instruments TXN.O in advance talks to buy SLAB for about $7 bln, source tells Reuters

** Shares of TXN down 3.2%.

** TXN and SLAB did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment

** Potential deal comes as chipmakers benefit from surge in demand from technology companies ramping up compute infrastructure to power their AI ambitions

** Deal could be announced in coming days, source says

** If finalized, it would be TXN's biggest acquisition in over a decade

** As of last close, SLAB up 5.2% in past year, TXN down 7.4%
