Wall Street's main indexes kicked off the final week of the year on a lower note on Monday, as heavyweight technology stocks gave up some ground from last week's gains which had pushed the S&P 500 to new highs. .N

At 10:30 EST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was down 0.40% at 48,515.77. The S&P 500 .SPX was down 0.31% at 6,908.44, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was down 0.49% at 23,477.517.
