The S&P 500 and Dow Jones were subdued on Tuesday as optimism over potential
rate cuts from the Federal Reserve next year waned, with investors on
tenterhooks ahead of more commentary from central bank officials. .N 
    
    At 15:34 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was up 0.18% at
34,156.81. The S&P 500  .SPX  was up 0.27% at 4,377.81 and the Nasdaq Composite
 .IXIC  was up 0.76% at 13,621.276.
