BENGALURU, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Shares of major Tata companies rose on Thursday after the group's holding company approved a fresh five-year term for N. Chandrasekaran as executive chairman, ending leadership uncertainty at the 158-year-old conglomerate.
Tata Sons TATO.NS reappointed Chandrasekaran, reversing his decision last month not to seek another term amid tensions with the charitable trusts that control the salt-to-aviation conglomerate.
Tata Investment Corp TINV.NS and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles TAMO.NS ended 4.5% higher, while Tata Motors TATM.NS climbed 2.8%. IT major TCS TCS.NS, which had risen as much as 3.4%, pared gains and closed 0.05% up.
"The strength in Tata group stocks, particularly companies in which Tata Sons has meaningful holdings, reflects investor confidence that leadership continuity could support the next leg of the value-unlocking story," said Aishvarya Dadheech, founder and chief investment officer at Fident Asset Management.
“Retaining Chandrasekaran removes a potential leadership uncertainty and reassures investors that the group will have experienced stewardship as it navigates regulatory, legal and capital-market developments."
The Economic Times first reported on the board's decision.
