TOKYO, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) 9501.T plans to restart the No. 6 reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant on February 9, with commercial operation scheduled from March 18, the company said on Friday at a press conference.
TEPCO shut down the No. 6 reactor, which has a capacity of 1,360 megawatts, after a malfunction was detected in late January, a day after the unit went online for the first time in about 14 years.
"The probability of the same thing happening is low, but the possibility of small problems cannot be ruled out," superintendent of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa station, Takeyuki Inagaki, said.
Kashiwazaki-Kariwa, the world's biggest nuclear power plant, is TEPCO's first reactor to restart since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
TEPCO shares closed up 7.1% on the day, outperforming the wider Nikkei index .N225, which ended 0.8% higher.
