Trinity Capital first-quarter net investment income rises

May 6 (Reuters) - Trinity Capital Inc TRIN.O on Wednesday reported a higher first-quarter net investment income, supported by higher interest, dividend and fee income, while net asset value per share declined from year-end.

The business development company said net investment income rose to $44.5 million, or 53 cents per share, for the quarter ended March 31, from $32.4 million, or 52 cents per share, a year earlier. Total investment income increased to $90.1 million from $65.4 million.

Interest and dividend income rose to $83.3 million during the reported quarter, from $62.7 million a year ago, while fee and other income increased to $6.8 million from $2.7 million.

Net asset value per share was $13.27 at March 31, compared with $13.42 at December 31.

Trinity recorded $9.9 million in net realized losses.

Its investment portfolio was $2.48 billion at fair value at March 31, compared with $2.42 billion at December 31.
