Aug 1 (Reuters) - Belgian metal recycling group Umicore UMI.BR reported second-quarter core profit above with market expectations on Friday, citing sustained demand and a supportive metal price environment.
Its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), including associates, was 433 million euros ($494.5 million) in the quarter, beating analysts' forecast of 420.6 million euros in a Vara consensus.
Umicore has investments in several business activities over which it does not exercise full management control. Associate companies are those where it has a significant influence over financial and operating policies, but no control, typically owning between 20% and 50% of the voting rights.
