Corrected: Polish government to adopt draft to tax windfall profits on fuel sales
CORRECTED-Polish government to adopt draft to tax windfall profits on fuel sales Corrects headline to say the government will adopt the draft bill, not "adopts"
WARSAW, June 16 (Reuters) - The Polish government will adopt on Tuesday a draft law to tax windfall profits generated by oil and gas companies which have benefited from surging margins amid supply shocks due to the Middle East war.
The draft assumes that 2026 revenues on sales of fuels exceeding the previous year average by 20% would be taxed at 60%, generating 4 billion zloty ($1.09 billion) for the state budget.
Income raised by the windfall tax will compensate a cut in VAT and excise duties the Polish government has introduced during the Middle East crisis to curb fuel prices at the pump.
