Offer period for Commerzbank CBKG.DE takeover ends.
UniCredit said on Monday it had asked German financial regulator BaFin to look into Commerzbank's statements on its €40 billion bid for Germany's second-largest bank, the latest salvo in a bitter year-long takeover battle.
(*) Following concerns raised by Commerzbank’s worker council over the accuracy of uniCredit's data on its take-up for Commerzbank, Frankfurt prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation into UniCredit's filings, several Italian newspapers reported on Tuesday. UniCredit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
(*) Germany has officially rejected UniCredit's offer to buy Commerzbank shares, the country's finance agency said on Tuesday.

Chinese automaker BYD 002594.SZ is not in talks to acquire the Maserati brand, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said in an interview with Italian daily MF published on Tuesday.
Li, who oversees the group's international operations, added that BYD is actively pursuing plans to establish a second manufacturing plant in Europe, with a preference for large, existing industrial sites, ideally located in southern Europe. Italy is among the countries on the group's shortlist, she said.
