BERLIN, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Germany's interior ministry
believes its planned restrictions on the use of components by
Chinese providers in 5G networks will not result in extra costs
for telecoms firms, magazine WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) wrote,
citing a key points paper.
The deadline of 2026 corresponds to the timeline by which
they would in any case mostly have to upgrade their gear,
enabling them to phase out equipment by China's Huawei
HWT.UL and ZTE, the paper read.
The planned ban on Chinese components in 5G core networks
was particularly unproblematic, according to the paper, as those
of Deutsche Telekom DTEGn.DE and Vodafone VOD.L were already
free of Huawei and ZTE components. Telefonica was on track to
replace them by 2025.
"As such the government can send a strong national and
international sign on security policy, without having to face
accusations of causing extra costs for operators," the paper was
