United Internet and 1&1 shares surge on Telefonica acquisition report

** Shares in United Internet UTDI.DE and its mobile communications subsidiary 1&1 1U1.DE rise sharply, as a trader points to an "El Espanol" report on Telefonica TEF.MC negotiating a purchase of 1&1

** Both stocks gained more than 10% before paring some gains, with 1&1 now up 9.2% and United Internet up 10.5% at 1024 GMT

** Telefonica shares are up 5.3%

** Telefonica Germany and United Internet told Reuters they did not want to comment
