US Cash Grains-Corn basis bids flat to mixed, crop weather improves
US Cash Grains-Corn basis bids flat to mixed, crop weather improves CHICAGO, July 31 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were steady to mixed at processing plants and grain elevators across the U.S. Midwest on Friday, grain merchants said, as crop weather improved.
The corn basis rose by 3 cents per bushel at a major processor in Decatur, Illinois, and dropped by 2 cents at a river terminal in Morris, Illinois.
U.S. corn and soybean futures slipped as much-needed rains reached Midwestern growing areas.
With soybean pod filling set to increase in August, analysts were assessing whether improving crop weather may support better-than-average soybean yields.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is scheduled to issue an update on crop conditions and development in a weekly progress report due on Monday.
In demand news, Chinese government buyers purchased at least 840,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans, two U.S. traders with knowledge of the deals said.
