US Cash Grains-Corn, soybean basis bids mostly flat to lower as farmers welcome August rains
US Cash Grains-Corn, soybean basis bids mostly flat to lower as farmers welcome August rains CHICAGO, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans delivered to elevators and processors around the U.S. Midwest were mostly steady to lower on Wednesday as beneficial rains soaked sections of the crop belt and elevated yield prospects in spots, grain merchants said.
Farmer selling remained slow as weaker futures prices given growers little incentive liquidate supplies. Many growers booked sales late last month when futures climbed to multi-year highs.
Rain is expected across a broad section of the Midwest farm belt over the next two weeks, potentially stabilizing crop conditions that have slipped in recent weeks.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is due to release weekly export sales data early on Thursday. Analysts surveyed by Reuters, on average, expect net new-crop corn sales last week as high as 1.2 million metric tons, while new-crop soybean sales were expected to be as high as 1.55 million tons.
Chicago Board of Trade grain and soybean futures declined for a second straight session on Wednesday as crude oil prices eased.
CBOT's most-active corn futures contract Cv1 settled 5-1/2 cents lower at $4.60 a bushel, while soybeans Sv1 fell 3 cents to $11.74-3/4 per bushel.
