Halozyme rises as Vertex signs global drug delivery tech deal

** Shares of drug delivery firm Halozyme Therapeutics HALO.O rise 3% to $64.93 premarket

** Co says it signed a global exclusive licensing deal with Vertex Pharmaceuticals VRTX.O for its Hypercon drug delivery technology, which allows medicines to be injected in smaller volumes

** Co says Vertex will pay Halozyme $15 mln upfront, with additional milestone payments possible

** Says Halozyme will also receive royalties on sales of any products developed using the technology

** Adds Vertex can use the Hypercon technology for up to three drug targets

** Says the technology is aimed at making it easier for patients to take medicines at home

** As of last close, stock down ~6% YTD
