The S&P 500 and the Dow extended losses on Thursday as Cisco Systems slumped
after it gave a dismal outlook, while investors fretted over the impact of
surging inflation on economic growth and corporate earnings. .N 
    
    At 11:32 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 0.89% at
31,208.6. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 0.42% at 3,907.22 and the Nasdaq Composite
 .IXIC  was up 0.39% at 11,463.088.
