Vistra gains after $4.7 billion deal to buy Cogentrix Energy

** Shares of utility Vistra VST.N up 4.4% at $170.17 premarket

** Company to acquire Cogentrix Energy from Quantum Capital Group for nearly $4.7 billion

** Deal includes 10 natural gas-fired power plants located across PJM, ISO New England and ERCOT

**  J.P. Morgan views the deal as a "key win" as it enhances VST's scale and market share across key power markets in the U.S.

** Jefferies describes the deal as a "late Christmas present," adding that the move to enter the New England market and diversify margins "makes abundant sense" in its view

** Deal is expected to close in mid-to-late 2026

** In 2025, stock rose 17%
