Wall Street's main indexes moved higher in volatile trading on Tuesday as a mixed bag of corporate earnings, soft economic data and fresh developments on the U.S.-China trade front kept investors on the sidelines. .N

 At 13:43 EDT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 0.77% at 40,536.44. The S&P 500 .SPX was up 0.48% at 5,555.45, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was up 0.33% at 17,423.92.
