Union Pacific, Wabtec gain on $1.2 billion locomotive deal

** Shares of railroad operator Union Pacific UNP.N rise 3.3% to $249.60

** UNP signs $1.2 billion agreement with locomotive parts maker Wabtec WAB.N to modernize railroad co's AC4400 locomotives

** WAB shares up 2.9% at $243.10 after deal announcement

** UNP will have more than 1,700 modernized locomotives in its fleet on completion of the order

** Companies say fleet upgrade will cut fuel consumption, increase the locomotives' tractive effort and improve reliability

** In 2025, UNP shares edged up 1.4%; WAB surged 12.6%
