Jan 2 (Reuters) - Xcel Energy XEL.O said on Thursday
it has received an approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission to operate its Monticello Nuclear Generating plant in
Minnesota for an additional 20 years through 2050.
The company has also received an approval from the Minnesota
Public Utilities Commission to extend operations through 2040
and said it would seek the state regulator's nod for the
additional 10 years.
Monticello, together with Prairie Island Nuclear Generating
Plant near Minnesota, provides nearly a quarter of the
electricity Xcel Energy customers use in the Upper Midwest.
