Argentina nearly doubles oil estimate at Vaca Muerta shale formation
Argentina nearly doubles oil estimate at Vaca Muerta shale formation BUENOS AIRES, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Argentina said on Thursday that a new technical study found the Vaca Muerta shale formation contains 30.17 billion barrels of recoverable oil, nearly double the 16.22 billion barrels estimated by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in 2013.
The government said the increase reflects a larger productive area, thicker usable rock layers and improved drilling and fracking techniques, strengthening the outlook for one of the world's biggest shale plays and a key pillar of Argentina's export ambitions.
