** Australia's S&P/ASX 200 .AXJO soars as much as 6.3% to 7842.9 points, its biggest intraday gain since the onset of the COVID pandemic

** Country's benchmark tracking rally seen in markets around the world after U.S. President Donald Trump eases some of his tariffs, healing soured investor sentiment MKTS/GLOB

** Index heavyweights Miners .AXMM and Financials .AXFJ lead the boost, up 6.4% and 4.5% respectively

** Top gainers include Zip co ZIP.AX (up 20.9%) , miner Sandfire Resources SFR.AX (up 16.8%)

** YTD, benchmark down 5.4% YTD
