Mello2018....The event created by investors for investors

Just to let all Stockopedia readers know that the popular Mello events are back with a really big one this year in April. We are returning to the newly refurbished Derby Conference Centre and running an event for two very full days with 15 Keynote speakers, 50 small to medium sized quality growth companies and about 12 educational seminars. Nearly all the companies will be doing 30 minute presentations with Q&A and we are expecting 1000 attendees so plenty of fellow investors and Stockopedia subscribers to network with.

Paul Scott and Graham Neary will also be doing a live show and running through the daily results and updates and there will even be an investor voted Awards show on the Thursday evening. Stockopedia will be there to answer questions and do a number of presentations to help subscribers make the most of the best data available to investors.

Why not come and join the hundreds attending the event for a couple of quality days with like minded investors. Everything you need to know is here....

We are told that the Masterclass has nearly sold out. The good news is that we have added another dozen listed companies over the last week which is actually more than the Master Investor show had in grand total at their London event yesterday.

I am pretty sure we are going to get to our 65 total for exhibiting companies and we are going to launch our investor awards nominations request in the next couple of days. Two challenging titles for the female lead panel session at #Mello2018 Firstly...Are women better investors than men ? then 'Gender and Risk..What the sexes can learn from each other !?' That should fill the room with challenging questions and comments

I recollect seeing a post from David, I think, about a social evening at the Conference Centre on Wednesday 25th for those arriving early, which I am unable to find. Clearly I am not looking hard enough! I am fairly certain an ABBA tribute group was mentioned. Can someone please point me to the details or correct my memory.

We have booked Abba Sensation for the Wednesday evening and you are all welcome. Mello will cover the cost and hopefully attendees will make a donation to charity as we hope to back three small charities over the three days at Derby.

I've decided to have a dedicated 'Investor Advice' stand at Mello2018 with hourly sessions through each day with solicitors, accountants, auditors, ShareSoc, pension advisers, personal tax advisers etc giving their free time to help solve your problems

Any other advice ideas and any volunteers to help for one hour in your professional capacities?

I would just like to say many thanks to all the people who made Mello a success. I very much enjoyed all the speakers and friendly people I met.

The fact that the main theatre is too small for the number of ticket holders wanting to see the speakers I didn’t enjoy so much. There wasn’t even standing room on occasions and there was a danger that if you left to do something else for a few minutes between speakers then you wouldn’t be able to get a seat if you came back.

So, if it’s possible, a venue with a bigger main theatre is needed or perhaps a different approach to ticketing.

I suspect the pressure on the main room may not be accidental.

If you have unlimited access to the star presentation in any given hour, how many people turn up to the other rooms to see the company pitches? And the company input is presumably the reason we investors paid so little. So my guess is the packed-out theatre creates a hundred or so "drifters", who pad out the attendance in other rooms, making those sessions more successful.

I claim no inside knowledge or insight, but I have to say I thought the format worked brilliantly for me.

Just like to say a great big thank you to David, Leon, Paul, Graham, Ed and all the Stocko team and in particular the unsung heroes who worked behind the scenes to make Mello a great success and a fabulous 2 days for private investors. Also much appreciation to those individuals who took time out to present and share their knowledge of investing and the companies that attended, hopefully they all found it worthwhile and insofar as the latter are concerned benefit from the wider exposure to the private investor community.

Lots of after buzz about Derby still filtering through. There will be a large section of the FT Money weekend edition dedicated to the event as their northern England journo and a photographer were at the event. I did an interview and they are going to feature quite a few of the speakers, delegates and companies in the story......I cannot too much but you will all really enjoy the coverage and hopefully quite a few pix in there too. Mello only to be found in quality pink broadsheets lol

Just to bring the curtain down on Mello2018.....the keynote speakers sessions will be available to all those who bought a ticket for the event in about one weeks time.

The curtains are now opening on our one day only Summer event called MelloSouth as we are bringing it to Kent and a lovely location right next to Hever Castle....The first 72 ticket buyers will also be given free access to all the keynote talks from Mello2018 & VIP front six row seats for the MelloSouth keynotes too. Tickets now on sale http://melloevents.com/

I went to Mello2018 & really enjoyed it.

What is the intention regarding content for MelloSouth ?
Perhaps having similar content to the Derby event, aimed more at people who could not get to the event in Derby, or will it be more like a third day with new content ?

jonesj.....Apologies as I have only just seen this question.

The intention behind MelloSouth so soon after Mello2018 was threefold....

1. There were a lot of companies that could not come to Derby for various reasons such as timing of results releases, overseas business, board meetings etc so another option to give them for the diary was very useful.

2. We did not want the southern based investors to feel we only do events away from the home counties and we know over half the investors attending such events and indeed attending Derby came from there. So we thought an M25 based venue for reasonable travel may be popular.

3. Mello is about community, networking and relaxing not commercial event management. We want investors to engage and enjoy the experience in wonderful surroundings......that is certainly the case in Hever with a castle as the backdrop.

There will be lots of great speakers and panel sessions but most importantly plenty of new companies to meet too.
