So, who hasn't woken up in Mexico covered in sweat, with a terrible cough?

Seriously though Relenza is reported to be more effective than Roche's Tamiflu and may help GSK's somewhat moribund stock price.

It's not clear exactly what is happening right now.  Reports are the situation is worse than officially stated in Mexico City.  There's a number of strange factors:

i) the combination of avian, swine and human flu occurring in Mexico - I don't recall any avian flu outbreaks in Mexico; various labs such as Baxter Labs have been doing some odd things recently

ii) why the high fatality rate in Mexico vs the US?  As anyone who's read "Guns, Germs and Steel" will remember, pulmonary eodema seems to cause a much higher rate of deaths in meso-americans because of lack of exposure to pigs historically, but plausibly a different strain;

Anyway, at worst this could be really bad and we've all read accounts of the Spanish Influenza epidemic, but also read that the numbers killed there were much worse because they quaranteened soldiers all together, not just the sick ones which resulted in far more deaths than otherwise.

If anyone's heard anything interesting please add...
