I just wanted to congratulate Paul Scott who writes his excellent Small Cap Report exclusively for us all here at Stockopedia every morning. He has made the shortlist from an extremely strong set of nominations as "Small Cap Analyst of the Year 2013" at the inaugural "Small Cap Awards" where he is up against Simon Thompson of the IC and George O'Connor of Panmure Gordon (you can view the shortlist here).

Paul is up at the crack of dawn before 7am preparing for the day's regulatory news reports, publishing his initial diagnosis on the news of the day before 8am and following up with further additions throughout the morning. These reports are becoming read by thousands daily and every month and our hope is that we can extend the reach of Paul's voice even further amongst the private investor population.

Paul is one of the most honest and tireless people in the small cap blogosphere, who writes as much to share and inspire dialogue as for his own research process. What is so exceptional about Paul as a stock market writer is that he's a real investor illustrating his investment thinking and processes every single day. Everyone who reads Paul learns from his keen eye for value and quality amongst smaller companies and his experienced and trained accounting expertise.

We really mustn't underestimate the significance of this - Paul's nomination is the first time in my memory that an individual from the open blogosphere (who doesn't just write for clients or a paying audience) has been nominated for an industry award like this in the UK beating off reams of research analysts as competitors. The walls are indeed crumbling.

Vote for Paul. Paul is one of the most humble investors I know - the first to admit of his own weaknesses but never one to brag about his strengths - so I just thought I do it a bit for him and ask all who have appreciated his work here at Stockopedia since late last year (and also through the years at Paulypilot's Pub at The Motley Fool, at Equity Active and on his own blog) to maybe encourage the judging panel to vote for him by dropping them an email.

While this isn't a publicly voted award I don't think it would do any harm for everyone to let the judges know who you think should…

I am so glad to have discovered Stockopedia and Paul Scott, the first thing I do, even before tea or coffee is to check Pauls first comments. Previously I was in the dark ages, a 24/7 subscriber to Company REFS and I also took the "IFG" Investing for Growth magazine, well they let me down, good thing because my brother put me onto you, and it is like a light going on.
I hope that one day Paul receives a knight hood for services to the private investor, Paul is helping ordinary folk to become more expert in providing themselves, and their families, better pensions, better futures and better lives.
Keep up the excellent work.

I totally agree with Neville Austins comments. I visited the London Investors Show at Olympia on Friday 25 Oct and had the distinct pleasure of meeting and engaging in rhetoric with both Ed and Paul.
Being relatively new to investing I had difficulty in seeing a light at the end of the tunnel but fortunate for me they must have jogged down there and lit the barbi.
Ed projected great confidence and understanding and Pauls clear and informative explanation of how he uses Stockopedia was enlightening.
Stockopedia and Pauls report is invaluable to me and what a nice bloke he is. Paul certainly gets my vote.

I agree. I find Paul's writing essential reading. Whenever I find myself in dispute with his view on a stock, eventually I am obliged to reach for the loo roll.

Add my vote as well. The most independent and honest of all commentators as well as being in a class of his own when it comes to an immediate concise (but in depth) analysis of a company's results.

Rational (for the most part!), lucid, rarely an unnecessary word, objective (usually!), and most importantly (in the context of broker research stifled by compliance departments) - timely. Paul is unmissable.

Further, I think he is doing a great job in reminding the boards of small and mid caps that the private investor base should not be overlooked, indeed should be nurtured.

Thumbs up from me for Paul. I don't trust my "monkey brain" when picking stocks without screening them first through Paul's historic SCVR which provides a mine of information and insight. Prolific and yet such high quality!

I think the main thing about Paul is that I trust his reports and comments as being honest and impartial. He has no ulterior motive other than to impart information for the benefit of private investors. He gets my vote unreservedly

I am very happy to add my name to the list. His initial comments put me on the track of Boohoo and after doing my own research I bought a share off my own beaten track at quite close to its lowest point. I also value his robust approach to balance sheet analysis and the small print in RNS's.

Yes indeed. Paul deserves the prize for writing articles that I can mostly understand! I've learnt a lot and I'm sure my returns will benefit as a result.

The only problem is I don't want to share him with too many others! Our secret weapon (the SCVR) won't be a secret weapon if everyone knows about it!

First thing that I look for in the discussion stream is Paul's small-cap post. His open, conversational way of writing has helped me with my investment decisions. I hope he gets it.

I like Paul's review. I had some shares on Boohoo at 40p, when it dropped from 40 to 22p, I sold them. However, Paul wrote positively about the company. I regret selling them now because it went from 22p to 160p now.
I admire his extensive research and they way he analyse a company's accounts.
