Frank's Story

Before Stockopedia, how did you go about finding investments?

Up I have been investing since I was 18 and have made every mistake that you can make over the years - First investment J & HB Jackson bought for 1/6 sold for 2/4 old money! I have used a few other data services before Stockopedia but found that some of the figures they used for ratios were not always accurate.

In what way has Stockopedia changed your approach to investing?

I do not like to overcomplicate my investment research, basically looking for growing turnover and profits. Stockopedia gives me access to the information that I need to choose an investment. I am a long term investor, during which time you tend to get to know the company well and have a better idea of what is normal market noise and what is a bit more serious.

Frank uses Stockopedia to gain invaluable insights into all the companies he invests in; helping him to make returns of 30% per annum.

Has this impacted your investment results and/or quality of life?

My annual return over the last 10 years has been of the order of 30% per annum.

I run 3 portfolios and rarely have more than 5 to 10 shares in each, I get to know every company that I invest in inside out. My annual return over the last 10 years has been of the order of 30% per annum.

What's your advice for investors that are just starting out?

Read a lot of books on investing until you can recognise an investment theme that you wish to follow. Pick a mentor (mine was John Lee, the first ISA Millionaire) your own Paul Scott is excellent. Enjoy learning about investing but never be a slave - life is for living. Keep accurate and detailed records and that includes writing down your mistakes and reread regularly. Be very very disciplined in your approach. Over the years I have used the above rules which have given me a very nice pot of capital. Stockopedia is the best system that I have found to help manage this.
