James' Story

Before Stockopedia, how did you go about finding investments?

I started investing online during the 2008/9 crash when I sensed there were bargains to be had. At first this was largely based on guesswork, buying stocks that had dropped in price in anticipation that they would rebound. I then began to use broker recommendations and share tips within financial publications.

In what way has Stockopedia changed your approach to investing?

My approach to investing has changed significantly since subscribing to Stockopedia and has evolved to incorporate more of the tools that they provide. When I first subscribed I would use it as a reliable source to check the PEG and other key ratios on stocks that I was interested in.

I started to use the StockRanks as a method of finding good quality, cheap and improving stocks, which remains part of my strategy today.

I then began to bring the screens into my strategy. I used this to find investment opportunities from those stocks that passed the criteria of a number of famous investors. After a while I started to use the StockRanks as a method of finding good quality, cheap and improving stocks, which remains part of my strategy today.

Using Stockopedia, has helped Jaime's net worth grow from £50,000 to over £1,000,000.

Has this impacted your investment results and/or quality of life?

While it is difficult to quantify the impact Stockopedia has had compared to another method, it has been a cornerstone of my investment strategy. This has seen my net worth increase from £50,000 in the low of the crash (2009) to over £1m today.* Whilst this is an impressive result the most important thing is the security and flexibility for myself and my family.

What's your advice for investors that are just starting out?

For new investors I would say, just get started. Set out to make lots of small mistakes but stick at it. Use this as a springboard to wealth but make sure you have fun along the way.
