Peter's Story

Before Stockopedia, how did you go about finding investments?

I used online screening tools. I had some simple rules that I picked up from a man called John Cotter. Sadly he passed away but he had a gift for communicating investment methods.

In what way has Stockopedia changed your approach to investing?

Stockopedia has completely changed my approach. It has introduced me to new investment styles through the articles and the Guru Screens. It has sped up my analysis immeasurably - I'm always impressed by the speed of the site; the charts and the StockReports. It is the first tool that can keep up with my ideas, rather than waiting for things to load.

I love the customisable screens and the ability to save chart templates. The checklist tool is awesome, too - I use that to understand why stocks do not currently meet my criteria. I write a blog on the site but it has put me in touch with other like-minded people, and we share ideas and books to read. It has also been useful to get some critical appraisal of my investment ideas from people with more or different experiences. I've found the education useful; Ed and Ben's regular features are thought-provoking as well as sharing ideas in the ebooks, and technical analysis tutorials. The portfolio tool is way better than other online alternatives.

Has this impacted your investment results and/or quality of life?

In terms of investment results, since I have started using Stockopedia, my results have improved. Unfortunately, I spend more time on it, but it makes research enjoyable because the platform is easy to use. I guess, the biggest impact on my quality of life was having a significant deposit to buy my ‘dream house’ when I changed jobs. For now, I'm saving so no real impact on my life in terms of profits since the house purchase! All profits reinvested. It has given me a lot more confidence in my investing mainly due to the education and the data at my fingertips.
