** Shares of Variscan Mines  VAR.AX  surge as much as 18.5%
to A$0.032, posting their biggest intraday pct gain since Nov.
23, 2020
    ** The base metals explorer says underground drilling at its
San Jose-Novales Mine in Spain reveal high-grade zinc

    ** Co says it will press on with drilling in the central and
southwestern mineralised zones, which is one of the more
important target areas for the drilling campaign
    ** Adds that next batch of drill core samples to be
submitted for assay analysis shortly
    ** About 11.5 mln shares change hands vs the 30-day average
volume of 3 mln shares
    ** Stock down 10% this year, as of last close
