MILAN, April 30 (Reuters) - Generali GASI.MI is a satisfied shareholder of private bank Banca Generali BGN.MI and would remain so even it were to give up its controlling stake, CEO Philippe Donnet said on Thursday.
Generali is the leading shareholder of Banca Generali with a stake of 50.2%.
In an attempt to thwart a hostile offer from Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena BMPS.MI, merchant bank Mediobanca MDBI.MI tried to bid for Banca Generali last year but its shareholders rejected the plan.
"We are a very satisfied shareholder. We could continue to work with Banca Generali even if we were not its controlling shareholder," Donnet told a Senate committee.
He said all options were under consideration, "from a greater integration of Banca Generali into the group, to a bancassurance agreement with another entity."
"But today, that option is not on the table", he added.
