Italy - Factors to watch on March 24

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Tuesday.

POLITICS

Italian voters emphatically rejected a flagship judicial reform championed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, dealing a blow to her right-wing coalition ahead of next year's general elections.

ECONOMY

Italy was the only major EU economy to record a significant increase in exports to the U.S. in 2025, despite the tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump, official statistics show.

DEBT

Italy's Treasury said on Monday it would sell 7.5 billion euros in BOT bills at auction on March 26.

On Tuesday, the Treasury announces the sale of BTP and CCTeu bonds, with relative amounts to be auctioned on March 27.

TIM's board met on Monday and took note of Poste's offer, the company said in a statement, adding that its board has begun the evaluation process.

BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

Banco BPM's main shareholder Credit Agricole CAGR.PA said on Monday it had filed a list of seven potential nominees to the Italian bank's board.

Credit Agricole, which owns just over 20% of BPM, said it did not aim to control the bank and had no candidates for the role of chief executive or chairman in its slate.

(*) The French bank's slate includes former Italian Economics Minister Domenico Siniscalco and Frédéric de Courtois, a long‑time top manager at Axa AXAF.PA who also worked at Generali GASI.MI and was close to former CEO Philippe Donnet.

The Tuscan lender's directors are expected to remove the executive powers of Luigi Lovaglio after the chief executive made a bid to secure another term despite board opposition, two people close to the matter said.

The board of the bank should indicate Acea ACE.MI CEO Fabrizio Palermo as candidate CEO, several newspapers reported on Tuesday.

New car sales in Europe rose in February after falling in January, while sustained demand for electric vehicles helped Elon Musk's all-electric brand Tesla TSLA.O resume growth for the first time since December 2024, official data showed on Tuesday. Sales of carmaker Stellantis rose by 9.5%.

EXOR EXOR.AS

The Agnelli family, through its investment firm Exor, has agreed to sell GEDI, the publisher of La Repubblica and owner of national radio stations, to Greek media group Antenna, marking its full exit from Italy's media sector, Antenna said on Monday.

The defence and aerospace group is set to sell its 30% in the Chinese Cnbm Aerostructures joint venture in the coming months, as a step in the rationalisation of the company's portfolio, MF reported on Tuesday.

The engineering group on Tuesday said that its Nextchem unit had been awarded two feasibility studies for two plastic upcycling projects in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia based on its NXReplast proprietary technology.

KKCG sees further growth opportunities for Ferretti and the offer it launched on the yacht maker - which closes on April 13 -  reflects its long-term commitment, the founder of the investment group, Karel Komarek, told Il Sole 24 Ore in an interview published on Tuesday. The recent entry of new investors into Ferretti – Bnk and Biglari – "is a positive signal" and will  contribute to a better governance, he added.

The board of the lender on Monday acknowledged the end of  Alessandro Decio's term as CEO and general manager and has assessed the profile of Bper's EMII.MI current Chief Retail & Commercial Banking Officer, Stefano Kuhn, as a suitable candidate to succeed him.
