Supervisors at BHP's Escondida mine in Chile to strike after contract talks fail
Supervisors at BHP's Escondida mine in Chile to strike after contract talks fail SANTIAGO, Oct 13 (Reuters) - The supervisors' union at the world's largest copper deposit, BHP's Escondida mine in Chile, said on Tuesday that mediation efforts to tie up a new collective labor contract had failed.
The union's members are set to kick off a strike on Wednesday, the union added. The threat of a shutdown at the mine has been supporting global copper prices amid fears of tighter supply.
