Russia, Belarus grant new chicken meat quotas, benefiting Brazil -APBA

SAO PAULO, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Russia and Belarus have
granted new zero-tariff quotas for chicken meat imported for
domestic processing, which should boost Brazil's poultry product
exports to Eastern Europe, the Brazilian Animal Protein
Association (ABPA) said on Thursday.
Brazil, home to companies like BRF SA BRFS3.SA and JBS SA
JBSS3.SA , is the world's top chicken supplier with more than a
third of the global trade.
No tariffs apply for imports of up to 140,000 metric tons of
chicken meat for Russia, and 10,900 tons for Belarus, effective
Dec. 12 and valid for all of 2024, the poultry and pork lobby
said.
"There is also a zero-tariff quota during the same period
for imports equivalent to 1.2 billion eggs to Russia," ABPA
said. "The Russian market remains closed to fresh eggs (imports)
from Brazil, but negotiations are already underway for a
possible opening," ABPA said.
Last week Russia renewed tariff-free chicken import quotas
equivalent to 364,000 tons, ABPA said.
