Australian investment firm Clime Capital to review unlisted assets as private credit scrutiny grows

Australian investment firm Clime Capital to review unlisted assets as private credit scrutiny grows

- Clime Capital CAM.AX said on Monday it would review its unlisted investments after its auditor raised concerns about valuations, days after a major Australian private credit firm marked down the value of assets in some listed funds amid heightened scrutiny in the sector.

Here are some details:

  • Clime Capital said it received a qualified audit opinion from KPMG over insufficient evidence to verify the net asset values of its unlisted unit trusts, adding that the fair value of these units is key in determining the firm's performance and management fee expenses.

  • KPMG's review comes days after Metrics Credit Partners, which manages around A$40 billion ($27.74 billion), suspended trading in three ASX-listed funds and cut asset valuations following concerns raised by its auditor.

  • Clime Capital reported a gross portfolio value of about A$154 million as of end-September. It also reported an after-tax profit of A$10.3 million for 2026, up from A$3.1 million last year.

  • The sector has come under increased scrutiny following the collapse of property developer Bathla Group, with Australia's corporate regulator warning about unrealistic valuations and governance shortcomings.

  • Trading in Clime Capital's shares was suspended on October 1, pending the release of its annual report, which was released later that day after it missed the September 30 deadline.
