Italy - Factors to watch on September 14

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Monday.

POLITICS/ECONOMY
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expects Italy's economy to grow by 1% this year, in line with the euro zone, she said in an interview with newspaper Il Foglio published on Saturday.

Italy needs to keep its public finances in check as the European Central Bank is raising interest rates, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Sunday.

DEBT
Rating agency Fitch affirmed Italy at 'BBB+' with a stable outlook on Friday.  

COMPANIES 
MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI/GENERALI GASI.MI/ BANCA GENERALI BGN.MI/BANCO BPM BAMI.MI
Neither Monte dei Paschi (MPS) nor Generali would be forced to sell their cross-shareholdings if the insurer ended up with a  stake of around 6% in MPS as a result of the bank's bid for Banca Generali BGN.MI, MPS CEO Luigi Lovaglio told la Repubblica on Sunday.
Lovaglio said the bank had sought legal advice and that the obligation to cut the stake below 3% would not apply if Generali received shares as part of an exchange offer, rather than buying them on the market.
He ruled out any break-up of Banco BPM if that takeover bid succeeded adding it could open up partnership opportunities for BPM's main shareholder Credit Agricole. 
(*) On Monday, Monte dei Paschi said the two buyout offers for Banco BPM and Banca Generali it has announced as it seeks to thwart a takeover bid by rival Intesa Sanpaolo ISP.MI can't be revoked even if Intesa seizes control of the group.
(*) MPS also said on Monday the implied premium for its Banco BPM offer was 3.4% as of September 11, while the implied premium for its Banca General offer was 12.8% on the same date. 
        
UNICREDIT CRDI.MI/COMMERZBANK CBKG.DE   
(*) German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil will meet with UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel in Berlin on Monday, after a failed attempt to stymie a drawn-out takeover of Germany's second-biggest bank.
UniCredit is considering a reverse merger between its subsidiary HVB and Commerzbank in response to Berlin's request that it does not delist Germany's second-largest lender, Milano Finanza reported on Saturday.

RECORDATI RECI.MI/CVC CVC.AS 
CVC is facing a shareholder revolt over its attempt to take Milan-listed pharmaceutical group Recordati private at what investors claim is an unfairly low valuation, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.
Some shareholders have written to Recordati's board arguing that CVC’s €51.29-a-share tender offer undervalues the Italian drugmaker and is structured to pressure minority investors into selling.

The engineering company said on Monday its unit Nextchem had won an order worth €125 million in Saudi Arabia.

POSTE ITALIANE PST.MI, TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) TLIT.MI
The postal group said on Friday it had secured a 66.6% stake in Telecom Italia's share capital at the end of the main phase of  its takeover offer. Poste Italiane's offer will re-open from Sept. 21-25.

The Italian freight shipping group has invested €800 million, which it will raise to €1 billion to add 21 new ships to its fleet, the company's Executive President Paolo d'Amico told Corriere della Sera in an interview on Monday.
The d'Amico family, which holds 55% of the group, does not intend to relinquish control, he added.
            
STELLANTIS STLAM.MI
The Franco-Italian car maker is set to invest €1 billion ($1.16 billion) to build vans in France, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.  
(*) Separately, on Friday the group said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Canadian armored vehicle maker Roshel to sell an idled Stellantis car factory near Toronto.

LAZIO LAZI.MI
The Rome-based club's winning start to the season ended as AC Milan's Diego Moreira scored twice in two minutes to help his side fight back and earn a 2-2 Serie A draw at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

(*) JUVENTUS JUVE.MI
The Turin club lost 3-2 away to Sassuolo on Sunday following a frantic finish leaving the team with seven points from four matches to sit eighth in Serie A.
