Computacenter plc
Computacenter announces that it aims to be Carbon Neutral in 2022 for Scope 1
and 2 emissions
27th April 2022
Computacenter has announced that it aims to be Carbon Neutral in 2022 for
Scope 1 and 2 emissions, five years ahead of its previous target.
Computacenter's Sustainability Report for 2021 shows how the Group's Scope 1
and 2 carbon emissions in 2021 were nearly 74% lower than in 2019, despite the
significant growth in scale and reach of the Group over that time. Scope 1
and 2 emissions include direct emissions such as facilities and indirect
emissions such as electricity used.
Computacenter's target for Net Zero, including Scope 3 emissions, is now 2040,
ten years ahead of its previous aim. Scope 3 emissions include all other
indirect emissions including business travel and transportation as well as
those from sources that Computacenter do not own or directly control including
the supply chain and products from our technology partners.
A number of initiatives and investments over recent years contribute to
achieving the Carbon Neutral milestone in 2022, which include:
· Investments in new and existing facilities to reduce electricity
consumption;
· Investment in solar generation at Hatfield (1.8m kWh generated in
2021, saving approx. 400,000 kg of annual carbon emissions) and Kerpen (1.5m
kWh generation expected in 2022);
· Move to electricity contracts from green energy suppliers.
As a result, in 2021, 73% of Computacenter's electricity usage came from
renewable sources. This means that Computacenter can achieve carbon neutral
(Scope 1 and 2) in 2022 with minimal usage of carbon offsets for remaining
emissions.

Computacenter's Group Finance Director and Chair of its Climate Committee,
Tony Conophy, commented:
"Achievement of Carbon Neutral (Scopes 1 & 2) in 2022 will be a major
milestone on our journey to Net Zero, based on years of carbon reduction
efforts across the business that we are confident can be sustained and
improved upon. We're proud that will be one of the first companies in our
industry to achieve this."
Computacenter's Group Development Director, Mo Siddiqi, commented:
"We're proud of what our people have achieved to hit this milestone. We
haven't talked much about it, we've just delivered. We will continue to
improve, invest and innovate in all areas of sustainability in line with our
broader Sustainability Strategy. We'll be the best that we can be; a company
that our people, customers, partners and communities can be proud of."
