** Australian coal miners lose on the day after coal prices plunge over 3%

** Country's top independent coal miner Whitehaven Coal WHC.AX drops as much as 2.2% to A$6.3, its lowest level since July 21

** Coronado Global Resources CRN.AX falls 2.6%, while New Hope Corp NHC.AX drops 1.2%

** Broader mining sub-index up 0.1%, helped by BHP's BHP.AX 0.3% climb
