US energy companies gain on rising oil prices as Iran war stand-off persists

** S&P 500 energy index .SPNY up 1.4%, tracking higher crude prices O/R

** Brent crude futures LCOc1 climbed 3.1% to $111.60/barrel; U.S. West Texas Intermediate CLc1 rises 3.7% to $100.09/barrel

** Crude prices gain as stalled Iran war talks left Strait of Hormuz largely closed, tightening Middle East supplies, but gains were trimmed after UAE said it would quit OPEC and OPEC+

** Energy majors Exxon XOM.N and Chevron CVX.N up 2.3% and ~2%, respectively

** Halliburton HAL.N, Coterra Energy CTRA.N, Devon Energy DVN.N and SLB SLB.N rise between 2% and 2.1%, among top percentage gainers on energy index

** Oil and gas producers Occidental Petroleum OXY.N up 1.7%, ConocoPhillips gains 1.6% and APA Corp APA.O rises 1.8%

** Oilfield services company Baker Hughes BKR.O up ~1%

** Refiners PBF Energy PBF.N gains 1.5% and Phillips 66 PSX.N up 1.2%
