India regulator bars two small firms from securities markets over alleged misconduct
India regulator bars two small firms from securities markets over alleged misconduct Aug 28 (Reuters) - India's markets regulator on Friday barred two small companies from the securities markets over alleged violations including misleading disclosures and manipulation of transactions.
The action comes as scrutiny of India's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) intensifies amid regulatory concerns over governance, disclosure standards and potential misuse of the country's SME listing platform, including diversion of funds raised from public markets.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) barred Debock Industries DEBO.NS and its managing director Mukesh Manveer Singh from the securities market for seven years.
SEBI alleged Debock used fictitious preferential issues to meet eligibility criteria for migration to the main board from the SME board, inflated its sales and submitted false bank statements to the regulator.
SEBI imposed a penalty of 11 million rupees ($115,331.18) on the company and 201 million rupees on Singh.
Separately, the regulator barred Trafiksol ITS Technologies TRFK.BO and its two controlling shareholders from the securities market for one year, imposing a total penalty of 10.5 million rupees on the company and its promoters.
SEBI alleged Trafiksol made misleading financial disclosures in its IPO prospectus and concealed material information.
Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that SEBI was considering applying some rules designed for large companies to public offers made by smaller businesses.
