POLITICS
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, met one-on-one in a marble-lined Vatican basilica on Saturday to try to revive faltering efforts to end Russia's war with Ukraine.
Zelenskiy said the meeting could prove historic if it delivers the kind of peace he is hoping for, and a White House spokesperson called it "very productive."
(*) Giorgia Meloni expects Russia to show concrete signs of its willingness to pursue peace in Ukraine, the prime minister said in a statement after meeting Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Rome on Saturday.

Italian bank Mediobanca on Monday announced a 6.3 billion euro ($7.15 billion) offer to acquire Banca Generali, a private bank controlled by the Assicurazioni Generali, using as payment shares it owns the insurer.
Mediobanca will hold a conference call with analysts at 0630 GMT, followed by a press conference at 0930 GMT.

Tender offer to acquire full control of Banco BPM starts; ends on June 23.
UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel expects feedback from the government, either formally or informally, within 10-15 days, on the bank's objections to the prescriptions Rome imposed on the BPM bid, la Repubblica reported on Saturday. It also quoted government sources as saying a meeting between the lender and Rome was possible in the near future, following recent informal contacts.
BANKS
Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on Friday defended the government's right to vet and impose conditions on banking deals using its so-called "golden powers", saying the matter was not for European institutions to adjudicate.

The energy contractor said on Monday it had been awarded a contract by Eni ENI.MI in the U.K. for the Liverpool Bay CCS project, worth approximately 520 million euros over the three years expected to complete the project.
IVECO IVG.MI
U.S. buyout firms Bain Capital and KPS Capital Partners are interested in the defence unit of the Italian truck-maker, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. The two U.S. buyout firms have been considering bids for the business that makes armoured and tactical vehicles.
PIRELLI PIRC.MI
The board of the Milan-based company is expected to approve on Monday an accord that will establish that the group's largest shareholder, China's state-owned Sinochem 600500.SS, does not exercise control over the tyre maker, il Messaggero daily reported on Saturday.
The group releases FY results.
