MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI
(*) The board of the Tuscan bank is expected to discuss at a previously scheduled meeting on Monday the future of its CEO after Luigi Lovaglio's decision to bid for another mandate despite being ruled out by the board, two sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Sunday.
PLT Holding, the investment vehicle of the Tortora family which owns more than 1.2% of the bank, said on Saturday it had filed a slate of nominees for the MPS board in April and was proposing to keep Lovaglio in the job.
Pierluigi Tortora, head of PLT Holding, told Reuters on Sunday the goal in presenting an alternative list to that filed by MPS directors for the renewal of the board was to garner support of roughly one fifth of the bank's capital. Tortora said that while proxy advisers normally recommend voting the board's list the MPS case was unique and the market had shown appreciation for the project PLT wants to see executed by supporting the Mediobanca takeover and driving shares higher before the recent turmoil.
Furthermore, a group of funds, holding a combined stake of over 0.7%, has filed a list consisting solely of independent candidates.
