GDANSK, May 15 (Reuters) - Polish retail chain Dino Polska DNP.WA late on Thursday reported a slightly higher first-quarter net profit of 316 million zlotys ($86.6 million), beating market expectations as rapid store network expansion offset pressure on its margins.
Dino, one of Poland's biggest supermarket chains, is navigating a challenging environment marked by more cautious consumer behaviour and intense price competition with discounters like Jeronimo Martins-owned JMT.LS Biedronka. It is focused on rapid store network expansion, particularly in smaller towns and rural areas.
The company's quarterly margin fell to 6.7% from 7.2% a year earlier
The margin was hit by Dino's pricing policy aimed at maximising sales volumes amid food price deflation
Dino plans to maintain a similar pricing policy throughout 2026
It expects the number of new store openings to increase by a "dozen or so percent" in 2026
Capital expenditures seen at around 2.5 billion zlotys for the year
Revenue grew 14.8% to 8.44 billion zlotys, also above expectations
That was boosted by the opening of 62 new stores in the quarter and like-for-like sales growth of 4.4%
($1 = 3.6482 zlotys)
