FRANKFURT, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Stakeholders in Germany's energy policy are overthinking how much new gas plant capacity they want and should just go ahead with tenders for the first batch, the chief of E.ON EONGn.DE said in a call with reporters on Wednesday.
"Let us begin with the first 5 gigawatts (GW), then the next 5 GW, then we'll see how we are faring," said CEO Leonhard Birnbaum after presenting results for the first half of 2025.
"We are too much focused on planning for the next 10 years, we should just simply do something."
The coalition government said in April that it aims to build up to 20 GW of new gas-fired capacity by 2030 to help bring stability to grids as volatile renewable power grows.
