Colombian government proposes new board slate for Ecopetrol (updated)

UPDATE 1-Colombian government proposes new board slate for Ecopetrol

Adds names and detail from statement

- Colombia's government has proposed a nine-member slate for the board of state-run energy company Ecopetrol ECO.CN to be voted on at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on September 15, the finance ministry said on Friday.

The proposal by President Abelardo De La Espriella's administration seeks to balance operational continuity with close allies to oversee the energy transition and deepen forensic audits, the ministry said in a statement.

  • Three current members would remain on the board: chair Luis Felipe Henao Cardona, audit and risk committee chair Ricardo Rodriguez Yee, and workers' representative Cesar Loza, a former head of the Union Sindical Obrera union.

  • The six new nominees, all government allies, include Jose Camilo Manzur Jattin, president of power distributor association Asocodis; Claudia Margarita Lafaurie Taboada, a hydrocarbons and gas lawyer with experience at Colombia's national hydrocarbons agency; and Carlos Augusto Suarez, a political communications strategist for De La Espriella.

  • De La Espriella has not yet appointed a new Ecopetrol chief executive.

  • The government said the incoming board must simultaneously oversee oil production and exploration to fund public finances, advance the energy transition, restore financial discipline, and deepen forensic audits into possible corporate irregularities.
