SAO PAULO, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Brazilian power regulator Aneel postponed on Tuesday its decision on whether to recommend the early termination of Italian utility Enel's ENEI.MI license to distribute electricity across metropolitan Sao Paulo.
The decision was postponed after one of Aneel's directors asked for more time to review the case
Two directors in the five-member board had cast their votes, both in favor of recommending to Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy the contract's termination before its 2028 expiry date
The two directors said recommending the termination is Aneel's last available resort, after performance improvement agreements and fines proved insufficient
Enel is under scrutiny in Brazil after severe weather left millions of homes and businesses without power over the period from 2023 to 2025 in Sao Paulo
The firm says the proceedings focus on a single weather event in 2025 and do not take into account improvements made over the past 2-1/2 years
The company also disputes parts of Aneel's methodology for calculating customer disruption and reconnection times
