Italy - Factors to watch on April 28

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Tuesday.

ECONOMY

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called on Monday for the European Commission to grant member states the same budget leeway to ease surging energy costs as is currently allowed for defence spending. The move would potentially allow Italy to fund costly aid measures for firms and families worth almost 35 billion euros.

ISTAT releases February industry sales data (0800 GMT); March producer prices data (0900 GMT).

DEBT

Treasury sells 2.5 billion euros 3-month BOT bills and 2 billion 6-month BOT bills. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

Chinese luxury automaker Hongqi, famed as Mao Zedong's preferred car brand, is in talks with Stellantis to build vehicles at one of the Fiat-to-Jeep owner's Spanish plants as it expands in Europe, five sources familiar with the matter said.

     The late Ray-Ban billionaire Leonardo Del Vecchio's heirs backed a deal on Monday to hand one of his children greater sway over the world's largest eyewear group EssilorLuxottica ESLX.PA, a source close to the matter said.

The family holding company Delfin owns a controlling 32.4% stake in the $100 billion Franco-Italian giant. The ownership reshuffle could also have broader implications for other, non-core investments, including Italian insurer Generali and banks Monte dei Paschi di Siena and UniCredit CRDI.MI.

UniCredit's decision to increase its stake in Generali, possibly leading to an industrial partnership, is "very positive", the chair of Fondazione CRT Anna Maria Poggi said in an interview with Tuesday's Il Sole 24 Ore. Fondazione CRT is a shareholder in both Generali and UniCredit.

Spain's Repsol and Italy's Eni are seeking to increase production at Venezuela's Cardon IV gas field to 645 million cubic feet per day, the manager of the project told an oil conference in Caracas on Monday, as an official from the state oil company separately pledged crude output increases.

Italy's telecoms sector needs higher retail prices and fewer regulatory constraints such as the obligation to offer free 24-hour call centres staffed by humans, CEO Pietro Labriola wrote in an op-ed published in Tuesday's MF financial newspaper.

The Italian manufacturers of agricultural vehicle transmission systems has filed in recent days a request to list its Chinese subsidiary Carraro China Drive System on the Hong Kong bourse, Chair Enrico Carraro told Il Sole 24 Ore daily on Tuesday.
