HOUSTON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp XOM.M plans to shut the gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracker (FCCU) at its 612,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Beaumont, Texas refinery at the end of November for an overhaul, said people familiar with the company’s plans.
The 120,000-bpd FCCU is scheduled to begin shutting down on November 30 and restart on February 28, 2027, according to the sources. Preparatory work ahead of the overhaul is already underway.
An Exxon spokesperson had no immediate comment.
After completing the FCCU work, Exxon plans to shut the 65,000-bpd diesel-producing hydrocracker in May as part of the Gold Project to upgrade units at Exxon refineries.
FCCUs use a fine powder catalyst to convert gas oil into unfinished gasoline.
Hydrcrackers convert gas oil under high heat and pressure in the presence of hydrogen into diesel.
