BEFORE THE BELL: FTSE LEADS, EYES STILL ON EARNINGS

European shares were set for another day of gains on Tuesday, though the boost from a deal to end the longest U.S. government shutdown on record appeared to fade. A softer sterling following weak British jobs data could support the FTSE.

Futures on the UK's internationally oriented top equity index .FTSE rose almost 1% before the cash open, outperforming EuroSTOXX50 and DAX futures, which added just 0.2–0.3%, as traders parsed the latest batch of earnings releases.

Nasdaq futures turned slightly lower in early European hours, following an AI-driven surge the day before that helped the index score its biggest daily surge since late May. Japan's Softbank Group 9984.T reported its second-quarter profit more than doubled, driven by valuation gains in its holdings of OpenAI. In October, the company sold its entire stake in Nvidia NVDA.O for $5.83 billion.

In UK earnings, Vodafone VOD.L was set for a positive start after upgrading its full-year outlook for both earnings and cash flow as it returned to top-line growth in Germany.

In Germany, reinsurer Munich Re MUVGn.DE stuck to its main profit target for 2025, while Fraport FRAG.DE beat profit expectations, though it trimmed its 2025 passenger forecast.

Better-than-expected earnings also came from potash and salt miner K+S SDFGn.DE, while Dutch payments processor Adyen ADYEN.AS guided for a profit margin by 2028 above the target it set in 2023.
