** Shares in Polish chemical company Grupa Azoty ATTP.WA fall around 4% after banks declared 3.95 billion zlotys ($1.09 billion) of loans at its polymer project unit due and payable
** The company says the notification from lender Pekao PEO.WA, acting as a facility agent, demands the repayment of the financial obligations by Jan. 23
** Analysts Jakub Szkopek from Erste Group and Michal Kozak from Trigon say the banks’ decision likely reflects the planned sale of the polymer project to state-run energy group Orlen PKN.WA
** The sale would require the banks to write off about 2.8 billion zlotys of debt, which "they probably won't easily agree to", Szkopek says
** Azoty's shares are on track for their worst day since July if losses persist
