The following factors could affect Italian markets on Monday.

    POLITICS
    France, Germany and the EU executive expressed hope on
Friday that EU governments will reach an agreement on the bloc's
fiscal rules by the end of the year, with Spain floating the
idea of convening an extraordinary meeting to achieve that goal.
    
    Former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi is not interested
in becoming president of the European Commission, a source close
to Draghi said on Friday, responding to a newspaper report that
he was France's choice for the role.

    ECONOMY
    Italy's parliament is unlikely to discuss this week approval
of a reform of the so-called European Stability Mechanism (ESM),
the leader of the coalition League Party in the Lower House said
Sunday. A debate on the reform had been scheduled for Dec. 14.
    Sources said last week Rome had no intention of ratifying
the ESM reform without a securing deal on the Stability Pact.

    COMPANIES
    POSTE ITALIANE  PST.MI  
    The Italian Treasury is not working to cut its stake in
postal service Poste Italiane, a ministry spokesperson said on
Friday, responding to a newspaper report that it could sell its
full 29.26% holding through a public offer.
    
    BANCO BPM  BAMI.MI  
    The European Central Bank has set a Common Equity Tier 1
ratio requirement of 9.07% for Banco BPM for 2024 as part of its
annual Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process, compared with
a requirement of 8.7% in 2023.
    Banco BPM said it recorded a CET 1 ratio of 14.33% as of 30
September 2023, comfortably above the required level.
    
    UTILITIES 
    Italy's energy authority said on Saturday it was delaying to
January 10 the tenders among suppliers to offer electricity to
households who will not pick a free-market contract at the
beginning of next year when the regulated price regime ends.

    Trades ex-dividend of 0.06 U.S. dollars as quarterly
dividend.
